Dangerous "E" Zones: Emotions in Sex Addiction Recovery

Dangerous "E" Zones

Dr. Doug Weiss - 9/24/2007

Dealing with emotions for sex addicts can be tricky. Many sex addicts early in recovery have very few feeling skills. During recovery, especially after completing your feeling exercises, you will begin to become better acquainted with yourself and your feelings.

Being aware of your feelings will be helpful, but it will not make them less difficult. In your recovery journey, you will find that some feelings are very difficult for you to manage. Some of these feelings may include but are in no way limited to; bored, lonely, angry, hopelessness, worthlessness, shame and rejected.

These difficult feelings are what I call the dangerous "E" zones. They are feelings that you have skillfully avoided or medicated during your addiction. Often these feelings in reverse are what you received from your addiction active, connected, content, hopeful, esteemed, shameless and fully accepted. This is what makes these feelings possible dangerous "E" zone. They represent a cluster of feelings that you rarely felt in your addiction.

During your recovery, you need to find out what your specific dangerous "E" zones are. The easiest way is to take the feelings list and put a mark by those feelings you believe to be most difficult for you.
