United Community Services (UCS) is an Iowa-based non-profit corporation and is licensed by the State of Iowa to provide substance abuse treatment services. The current organization was incorporated on November 11, 1997. UCS is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and the day-to-day operations are managed by the Executive Director.
The mission of UCS is to provide quality care in a recovery focused system. Our vision is to provide care in partnership with persons served and in collaboration with the community to improve health and quality of life. Individuals served are the cornerstone of our business and clinical standards. Our relationship with them must be built upon honesty, credibility, professionalism, and mutual respect.

Over the past three years, UCS has treated approximately 2,400 individuals for addiction. Services provided include: assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapies and medication assisted treatment. Our staff is comprised of certified addiction counselors, three pharmacists and one physician who all work together to use various best practices and philosophies to tailor an effective plan for each individual client, as well as, family members in certain cases. Aftercare services are provided along with community resource referrals. Case management services provide financial, job, health and housing resources to clients.

After reading other exercises in this book such as What My Addiction Took From Me, What My Addiction Cost Me, and My Worst Moment, you may have discovered in several dimensions what sexual addiction has really cost you. This realization can truly be painful and you can have very sad feelings accompanying the realization.

Although at the moment you feel this pain and discomfort, there will also be days ahead when your addiction will attempt to have you forget it. If your addiction can get you to forget this pain and discomfort, it will become easier to talk you into "another ride" on the sexual addiction train. It is in the pain and discomfort of the reality of what your addiction has cost you that you may feel committed "not to do that again!" In the hopes of strengthening your recovery and giving you one more tool to assist in your recovery, you can capture this moment of pain in order to rescue yourself in the future days when your sex addiction wants you to join in again to destroy you.

Use the back of a business card that is blank and write at the top of it the word "COST" along with what your addiction has cost you and what it could cost you five years from now. Write yourself some notes that only you would understand and place this in your billfold and when you start to feel the addiction try to talk you into acting out, pull out your card and talk back.
