Many sex addicts have particular driving routes, which feed their sexual addiction. These routes may include driving by a certain convenience store, adult bookstore, adult dance club, or massage parlor. Many of these places become a regular part of the sex addicts driving route. Before or after work or maybe on lunch break the addict will go to one of several places to get a look, buy something and experience his addiction once again.

Conditioning yourself to these places is very powerful. Driving by any of the above places can often trigger the addict into thoughts of acting out or even rationalizations such as "I've had a bad day." Many sex addicts feel the rush their body receives just by driving by an adult store or service. Some recovering addicts even have to reroute the way they drive to work because of billboards that objectify women.

To reroute your driving is to carefully consider the way you go to and from a geographical area. If you have a relapse because of your driving route, it definitely is an indication that rerouting has to happen. You can make rerouting a part of your accountability and that you won't drive by the school, pool or college campus or other possible relapse situation for your personal recovery. Rerouting can help stop some of the ritual acting out of driving by the old familiar place where you have acted out so many times in the past.
